Terms of Service

Effective 24 October 2026

The short version
  • SayVelio is free during early access and is provided as is. New accounts get a free trial; after it, the Free plan allows a limited number of dictations a day.
  • Your words are yours. We don't claim any rights to what you dictate and we don't train models on it.
  • Speech and text go from your Mac straight to the speech and AI providers you pick, under their terms and on your or your team's API key, or on our OpenAI account on a personal account or during a trial.
  • Don't use SayVelio to record people without their consent or to break the law.

This summary helps you read the terms; the full text below is what applies.

1. Who we are and what these terms cover

These Terms of Service (the "Terms") are an agreement between you and SayVelio, based in the Republic of Cyprus ("SayVelio", "we", "us"). They cover the SayVelio apps for macOS and iPhone (including the SayVelio keyboard), the website sayvelio.com, the account dashboard at app.sayvelio.com and everything we provide through them (together, the "Service").

You accept these Terms when you create an account, sign in with Google, or install or use the app. If you use SayVelio for a company or other organization, you accept them on its behalf and confirm you are allowed to; "you" then also means that organization.

Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle personal data. Teams that use SayVelio for their staff also get our Data Processing Addendum, which forms part of these Terms.

2. Who can use SayVelio

You must be at least 16 years old, and old enough to enter a binding contract where you live. You may not use the Service if we have blocked your account before, or if the law that applies to you forbids it.

3. Your account

  • Give us a real email address that you control and keep your password secret. You are responsible for what happens under your account.
  • Each account is for one person. A team owner invites members; members do not share sign-ins.
  • Tell us at hello@sayvelio.com straight away if you think someone else has accessed your account.
  • You can disconnect any Mac from the dashboard and ask us to delete your account at any time.

4. How the Service works

When you hold the dictation key, the app records your voice on your Mac and sends the recording to the speech recognition provider you selected (for example OpenAI, Groq, Deepgram or ElevenLabs). If AI cleanup is on, the transcript, your prompt and your dictionary go to the language model provider you selected (for example OpenAI or Anthropic). The cleaned text is then inserted where your cursor is.

These requests go directly from your Mac to the provider, using an API key that you, your team owner or a team admin supplied, or, for a personal account or a team that has not added an OpenAI key, a short-lived access token we issue on our own OpenAI account. Audio and dictated text do not pass through or get stored on our servers. Each provider handles the data under its own terms and privacy policy, which you or your team accept when you get the API key, and any usage fees are charged by the provider to the key's owner, not by us. Access on our account is free during early access and starts once you confirm your email address. It is limited by plan, as described in section 10, and we may change those limits or end this access at any time; it does not entitle you to any paid feature. You may not use it for anything other than dictation in the app, or try to extract or reuse its access tokens.

The providers the app can use, and how processing works with your own key, your organization's key or a future setup that runs through SayVelio, are listed in our Privacy Policy. If we offer processing through SayVelio, it will only apply once you or your organization choose it, under updated terms.

The iPhone app and its keyboard work the same way; wherever these Terms say Mac, they also mean iPhone.

Our servers keep your account, team, settings, dictionary, snippets (stored encrypted), connected Macs and daily usage counts (dictations, words, seconds of audio and AI tokens per model, never the text or audio) so the app can sign you in, apply your team's settings and show your usage statistics.

You are responsible for what you save as snippets. If a snippet contains other people's details, such as a colleague's phone number, add it only if you are allowed to share it with your own devices this way.

Costs shown on the dashboard and in the app are estimates based on public list prices. What you actually pay is set by your provider and appears on your provider's bill; we are not responsible for differences.

5. Teams

A team owner can create a team, invite members, set a shared prompt, dictionary and models, store a team API key and decide whether members can change their own settings. The owner can make members admins, who can do the same, except demote or remove the owner. If you are a team owner or admin:

  • you are responsible for the members you invite and for the API key you add, including the provider's charges;
  • you confirm your organization may share that key and settings with its members;
  • where you act for an organization, it is the controller of its members' personal data and our Data Processing Addendum applies.

If you join a team, the owner and admins can see your email, connected Macs and the last day you dictated, change the settings your app uses, and remove you from the team. They see your daily usage counts only if the team turns on per-person usage, which your team page then shows.

6. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • record or transcribe other people without the consent or legal basis the law requires where you are;
  • use the Service to create or send unlawful, infringing, harassing or deceptive content;
  • break the terms or usage policies of the speech or AI providers you use through SayVelio;
  • try to gain unauthorized access to the Service, other accounts or our systems, or disrupt or overload them;
  • reverse engineer, resell or offer the Service to others as your own, except where the law allows this despite these Terms;
  • use the Service to build a competing product or to scrape it with automated tools.

7. Your content

Everything you dictate, the text SayVelio produces for you, and the prompts and dictionaries you add are your content. You keep all rights to it. You give us only the permission we need to store and sync your settings, prompts and dictionaries to run the Service for you. We do not use your content to train AI models and we do not sell it.

You are responsible for your content and for having the right to use it.

8. AI output

Speech recognition and AI cleanup can mishear, leave out or change words. Check the text before you send it, especially in legal, medical, financial or other important contexts. SayVelio is not a substitute for professional advice and should not be used where a wrong word could cause injury or serious harm.

9. Our software and brand

We own the Service, the SayVelio name and logo and the software, except for third-party open-source components, which are licensed under their own terms. While you follow these Terms, we give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to install and use the app on Macs you own or control. Ideas and feedback you send us can be used freely, with no obligation to you.

10. Price and changes to the Service

Accounts are personal or belong to a team. Each new account, and each new team, starts with a trial (currently 14 days) with no dictation limit beyond our general daily limits. When the trial ends, the account moves to the Free plan, which allows a limited number of dictations a day on our OpenAI account (currently 10). The Pro plan (for personal accounts) and the Business plan (for teams, per person) allow a larger monthly number of dictations (currently 5,000); during early access they are free and we turn them on when you ask us. A team that adds its own OpenAI key is not limited by plan on our account. The current plans and limits are shown at app.sayvelio.com/plan, and the dashboard shows how much of your limit you have used.

SayVelio is currently free of charge; you pay only the speech and AI providers whose keys you use. We may introduce paid plans later. We will tell you before anything you already use starts to cost money, and nothing will be charged without your explicit agreement to a paid plan and its terms.

SayVelio is in early access. We may add, change or remove features, and the app updates itself automatically to the latest version so that you receive fixes and security updates.

11. Suspension and ending your use

You can stop using SayVelio at any time and ask us to delete your account. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these Terms, puts other users or the Service at risk, or where the law requires it. Where reasonable, we will tell you why in advance and give you a chance to fix the problem. We may also stop offering the Service; if we do, we will give you at least 30 days' notice where possible.

Sections 7 to 9 and 12 to 15 continue after your use ends.

12. Disclaimer

The Service is free and provided "as is" and "as available". To the extent the law allows, we make no promises that it will be uninterrupted, error-free or fit for a particular purpose, and we are not responsible for the services of the speech and AI providers you choose. If you are a consumer, you keep any rights that mandatory consumer law gives you, and nothing in these Terms limits them.

13. Liability

Nothing in these Terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, for intent or gross negligence, or any other liability that cannot be limited by law.

Otherwise, to the extent the law allows: we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, loss of profits, revenue or data, or for losses caused by the providers you choose; and our total liability arising from the Service in any 12-month period is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in that period and EUR 100.

14. Indemnity

If you use the Service for a business, you will cover our reasonable costs and losses from third-party claims caused by your content or by your breach of these Terms or the law.

15. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Cyprus, and the courts of Cyprus have jurisdiction. If you are a consumer living in the EU or elsewhere, you also keep the protection of the mandatory laws of your country and may bring proceedings in your local courts.

These Terms, the Privacy Policy and the Data Processing Addendum are written in English. If we publish a translation, it is for convenience and the English version applies if they differ, unless the mandatory law of your country says otherwise.

Please contact us first at hello@sayvelio.com; most problems are solved faster that way.

16. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms as SayVelio grows. For changes that matter, we will tell you by email or in the app at least 14 days before they take effect, unless a change is needed sooner for legal or security reasons. If you keep using the Service after that, the new Terms apply; if you disagree, you can stop using it and delete your account.

17. Other terms

If a court finds part of these Terms invalid, the rest still applies. If we don't enforce a right straight away, we do not give it up. You may not transfer these Terms without our consent; we may transfer them to a company that takes over the Service, such as a company we form to run SayVelio, and we will tell you if that happens. These Terms, the Privacy Policy and, for teams, the Data Processing Addendum are the entire agreement between us about the Service, unless we sign a separate agreement with your organization.
